Gratitude and Appreciation for “International Scarves in Solidarity”

Last Wednesday was the second ever “International Scarves in Solidarity,” and it was very successful in my perspective. I know that this is delayed but I really wanted to take a moment to express my appreciation and gratitude to everyone who participated in “International Scarves in Solidarity.” There was a very amazing amount of participation and submission of photos/messages to the facebook event’s page and tumblr blog. I want to personally thank everyone who participated in this day. It’s always very inspiring and uplifting to see a unity amongst people regardless of personal beliefs, religion, gender, etc.

Misconceptions are what drive ignorance. Martin Luther King Jr. once said “Nothing in the world can be more dangerous than ignorance…” This event, though seemingly small, was essentially just one way to bring awareness/information to people and help negate all the misconceptions. I know that I had a few really great conversations and I hope those who participated had some form of reflection/good conversation, as well.

Beyond that, I’ve gotten a few remarks from my fellow scarfed Muslim sisters about how touching this day was for them. It was really great to hear that they felt supported and a true solidarity—which was ultimately one of the major goals on this day.

Once again, I cannot express enough my gratitude and appreciation for your participation. Hopefully one day, we can see change in perspective and progress for women throughout various Islamophobic countries in the world. I hope you decide to join us again next year!

 Peace and Best wishes,

Yusra

Here is my secret. It is very simple: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.

Hijab is a choice made from within our hearts. Not the least are we forced to wear it.

In solidarity: for my best friend, myself, and women everywhere.

Solid.
Just like my faith, my hijab remains SOLID.

Scarves in Solidarity.

Scarves in Solidarity.

Whew, a few minutes minutes to spare! I was so sick all day that I didn’t go out and wear my scarf in solidarity, but I thought I might as well take and upload a picture in support anyway! The day is almost over here on the East Coast of the USA, but my solidarity and support will never end.
